데이터의 편향과 알고리즘의 불투명성에 대한 비판에도 불구하고 취업 시장에서 인공지능(AI) 채용도구의 활용은 지속적으로 확대되어 왔다. 이 논문은 기술의 도입, 수용, 확산을 둘러싼 다양한 사회적 힘들에 대한 분석을 통해 AI 채용도구의 수용, 확산이 기술의 완결성에 대한 믿음 때문이 아니라, ‘공정성’에 대한 사회적 열망이 기계적 객관성의 추구와 결합했기 때문에 가능했다고 주장한다. AI 채용도구의 개발, 도입, 활용 과정에 관여하는 행위자들의 상이한 해석에 주목하며, 본 연구는 AI 채용도구를 둘러싸고 기존의 채용절차가 어떻게 문제화되는지를 살펴본다. 역량을 개인에 고유한 것이자, 표준화된 방식으로 측정, 수량화, 비교할 수 있다는 기계적 객관성의 추구와 차별적인 인간 평가자에 대한 불신은 AI 채용도구가 큰 저항 없이 수용될 수 있는 조건이 되었다. 본 연구는 AI 기술에 대한 과학기술학적 개입은 그것이 도입되는 영역을 둘러싼 사회적 실천 자체의 전제에 대한 질문에서 출발해야 한다고 제안한다.
Despite criticisms of data bias and algorithmic opacity, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) hiring tools has continuously expanded in South Korea’s job market. Analyzing the social forces behind this phenomenon, this paper argues that the technology’s widespread adoption is driven not by a belief in its technical perfection, but by the convergence of a societal desire for ‘fairness’ with the pursuit of mechanical objectivity. Focusing on the differing interpretations of developers, HR managers, and job seekers, this study examines how existing hiring procedures are problematized to justify the turn to AI. The pursuit of mechanical objectivity—which treats competency as an individual trait that can be standardized, quantified, and compared—combined with a deep distrust of discriminatory human evaluators, created the conditions for these tools to be accepted with little resistance. This study proposes that a critical intervention in AI technologies should begin not by critiquing the technology itself, but by questioning the underlying premises of the social practice it is designed to augment.
